Reflexology

What is reflexology?

It is a complementary therapy that works on the feet (or hands) enabling the body to heal itself. Following illness, stress, injury or disease the body is in a state of ‘imbalance’, and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing it from functioning effectively.

Reflexology may be used to help restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and encourage healing.

During a treatment a reflexologist uses their hands only to apply pressure and manipulations to the feet. For each person the application and effect of the therapy is unique. The free flow of energy can be restored to the whole body. Tensions can be eased and circulation and elimination of toxins is improved.

How can it help me?

This gentle therapy encourages the body to work naturally to restore and maintain its own healthy balance. It may help with:

  • stress and anxiety
  • back pain
  • fertility issues
  • hormonal imbalances
  • joint pain
  • sleep disorders
  • digestive disorders

However, reflexology is an equally important therapy for healthy people. Everyone needs balance, relaxation, moments of reflection and serenity to get in touch with their deeper selves and experience the peace and well-being that lies within.

Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. Increasingly, doctors, consultants and other health care professionals recognise reflexology as a well established, respected and effective therapy.

What happens when I come for a treatment?

On the first visit we will have a discussion to determine your present and past health and lifestyle. This is so I can build a picture of you as a whole person rather than just focusing on any problem you may have.

The treatment itself takes place in a reclining chair which allows you to relax and feel supported. Gentle pressure and manipulations will be applied to your feet and any subtle changes will be noted and worked upon – this may in turn affect the corresponding area, organ or system of the body.

Treatments usually last about an hour although your first appointment may take about 15 minutes longer. Depending on your body’s needs a course of treatment may be recommended.

How will I feel afterwards?

After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very definite way. Most people have a sense of well-being and relaxation. Sometimes people can feel lethargic, nauseous or tearful but this is transitory and is part of the healing process.

How is reflexology with aromatherapy different?

I will create a bespoke blend of essential oils in a base cream to use during your treatment. So not only will you have all the benefits of reflexology but aromatherapy too! You will also be given the remainder of your blended cream to take with you and advised how to best use this at home.

I’d like to know more before I decide if it’s for me...

Do please feel free to give me a call on 01256 381596 or 07950 314636 to ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have. I am hugely enthusiastic about the subject and more than happy to talk about it! Alternatively you can email me.

There is no obligation at all to book a treatment although I would encourage anyone to give it a go at least once to experience reflexology for themselves.

If you would prefer to source more information online then please visit the Association of Reflexologists website.
They are the largest and most respected governing body of reflexologists in the UK, of which I am a member.
