Aromatherapy

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to help restore balance in the body. Essential oils are substances obtained from various parts of aromatic plants. Aromatherapy can be used to enhance holistic treatments to help improve physical and emotional wellbeing. It is a form of natural healing that is more than 8,000 years old.

How can it help me?

Aromatherapy adds another dimension to the treatments I currently offer. It gently enhances their therapeutic effect and increases your overall sense of wellbeing. It is also a therapy which I can guide you to use safely and easily at home.

What happens when I come for a treatment?

Before any treatment with me we will discuss your present and past health and lifestyle. This is so that I can build a picture of you as a whole person rather than just focusing on any one particular problem you may have. From here we can establish how aromatherapy can best be used to help encourage your own natural balance.

You may have already decided that you would like a Reflexology treatment or Indian Head Massage or maybe you are not sure which treatment would be best for you... don't worry I can advise you which would most suit your needs. I will then create a bespoke blend of essential oils in a base carrier oil or cream to use during your treatment.

I now offer a bespoke blend of oils in all my Indian Head Massage treatments as standard and if you opt to try Reflexology with Aromatherapy you will be given the remainder of cream to take with you to use at home.

How will I feel after a treatment using aromatherapy?

That very much depends on the treatment, your needs and which oils we have chosen. For instance lavender can make you feel calm and relaxed whereas lemon can make you feel clear headed, invigorated and refreshed. Sometimes, depending on the oils used, the therapeutic effect can be instant, sometimes more subtle and develops over time. Hopefully you will always leave feeling more balanced and with an overall improved sense of well being.

I've seen Aromatherapy oils to buy in shops. Why can't I just buy them to use myself?

You can do this of course if you wish! However, beware as there are many products labelled 'aromatherapy oils' on the market and some have actually very little essential oils in and lots of synthetic substitutes to pad them out. I would advise you to always buy from a reputable supplier, one who is a member of the Aromatherapy Trade Council. They have a list of members on their website www.a-t-c.org.uk . Always ask the supplier for advice on home use.

How do you start to decide which oils are best for you and what quantity and method of application to use? The benefit of coming for a treatment with me is that I source only the very best essential oils and base products and I can create a blend unique to you which you will learn from me how to use safely and effectively at home.

Who are your suppliers?

I use The Essential Oil Co Ltd www.eoco.org.uk . They are based in Basingstoke and the owner, Sue Foley, is a highly qualified aromatherapist who is always on hand to offer advice and information. For my base products I use Essentially Oils Ltd www.essentiallyoils.com and Denise Brown Essential Oils www.denisebrown.co.uk as they both offer a wide range of natural base creams and oils which are free of unnecessary added chemicals.
